Fall is one of my favorite times of the year. I love to see the colors of the leaves as they change and fall from the trees. The leaves dying signifies a new beginning. A pruning of the old in order to make room for the new leaves. It is a new beginning for every tree. In the same way, dying to self is a new beginning for us as believers when we allow the pruning process to begin in our lives.
The pruning process is defined as the cutting away or cutting back parts of the tree for better shape or more fruitful growth. This is the same process the Lord does in our lives. Take a look at John 15:1-2 (GW) Then Jesus said, “I am the true vine, and my Father takes care of the vineyard. 2 He removes every one of my branches that doesn’t produce fruit. He also prunes every branch that does produce fruit to make it produce more fruit.
The Lord’s desire is to bring us to a place of fruitfulness. If we allow this process to take place in our lives we will see healing and restoration begin within our spirit man. It is so easy to keep hidden those secret compartments of guilt, shame, condemnation, bitterness, etc. in the chambers of our heart, but these negative emotions only contaminate our growth.
The Lord is standing at the door of your heart knocking and seeking to come in and commune with you. His desire is to come into those hidden places. Will you allow Him to come in? The pruning that needs to take place can only begin when we give God permission to enter those secret places of our hearts. Those sacred and sheltered areas that no one else sees. Are you willing to give Him your treasures? That is what He is after, all the superficial things that have been holding you captive. He desires to bring you to a place of wholeness and healing. He wants to rid our lives of the crutches that have kept us leaning on everyone and everything else but Him. God wants to be your source of healing and comfort. He wants to be your resting place.
Lord, I recognize where I am today. I have chosen to hide myself like Adam with fig leaves. I have chosen to bury deep within how I really felt about what has hurt me, wounded me, and disappointed me. I really believed this was a way of protecting me and my heart. Today I realize I have been trusting in me and not in You. I give you permission today to begin the pruning process in my life. Father, lead me through the doors that have to be reentered in order for me to heal. You know what I can handle and when. I trust your heart concerning me. I pray that as I allow you to prune my life of the contaminates, I will come to a place of healing, wholeness and fruitfulness. I pray that my life will show forth your Glory. In Jesus name Amen.
Revelation 3:20 (GW) Look, I’m standing at the door and knocking. If anyone listens to my voice and opens the door, I’ll come in and we’ll eat together.
