Matthew 12:43-45 (NIV). 43 “When an impure spirit comes out of a person, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. 44 Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.
Devils walk through dry places. Let that thought linger with you for a moment. As a minister of the Gospel I have come to find how important it is to refill daily because we are constantly giving out. In that time of refilling we must also be careful of going to the God for what we need just for the people. We need to ensure that we are taking time to let Him minister to us as well. We cannot continue to give from an empty cup.
Balance and boundaries are essential in assuring we remain full. Otherwise we find ourselves feeling insecure, fearful, agitated, frustrated, and pure sinful at times just to be honest. Notice our key scripture, impure spirits look for dry places to find rest. This is where we remain bound inwardly in the cycle of sin. Knowing this should encourage us to stay full. Some of you may be reading this and wondering how do you do that? Here are a few practical tips to glean from.
Block off some time during your day to refill and refresh on the Word of God.
Create a Worship playlist to play as you lay still.
Set aside time just for solitude and quiet.
Block off time for prayer and fasting, to include fasting from television, radio, social media
Read motivational books.
Schedule time for recreation and other self-care activities.
Satan is a master strategist. His aim is to bombard our schedules with so much to do that we remain dry. If we are not careful this happens subtly not only from outside pressures but also from internal pressure of needing to feel wanted, affirmed, and loved. When we begin to crave attention we lose sight of time we have invested. We get so overwhelmed and tired and before we know it we are ready to crash and burn. Don’t allow the enemy to steal your life away from you.
Here in John Jesus teaches us what we should be our norm. “He who believes in Me [who adheres to, trusts in, and relies on Me], as the Scripture has said, ‘From his innermost being will flow continually rivers of living water.’ John 7:38(AMP)
If you are finding yourself in a dry place right now and it seems like all Hell has broken loose in your life and around you. It may be time to pull back and begin to worship. Take some time to refuel your Spirit man. Psalm 22:3 tells us that God inhabits the praises of his people. If you want to change the environment in and around you and put the enemy to flight, begin with worship. Worship brings God on the scene.
Prayer: Lord teach us to set boundaries around our lives and our schedule so that we can remain full and flowing freely in order to maintain healthy spiritual lives and accomplish what you have assigned our hands to. In Jesus name, Amen.
