It’s Not Just About Sunday

Standard

How can I stand in a corporate setting and say, “God I love you, God I need you, you’re my everything…Oh but I haven’t even opened your Word, or spent time communing with you this week?” We cannot begin to adore (worship) a God and bring Him praise when we haven’t begun to know Him. Debra Black

As, I read this statement it reminded me of the time when I thought reading the Bible and worshipping God was just for Sunday. Growing up Sundays were all about going to church. I didn’t understand why at the time, I just knew it was the thing to do.

Now, that I am older and know better I understand that worship is more about having an intimate relationship with our Heavenly Father. It’s not about rules and serving an angry God; it is about getting to know and love the God that created us, the God that loves us and gave His Only Son for us.   To worship God, we must make sure we are spending adequate time with Him to strengthen our relationship.  This can’t happen with just a Sunday mentality.  We must make time with Him a priority every day. Worship is a lifestyle and cultivating intimacy happens through relationship not religion. When we function under the “Sunday only mentality” it stunts the growth of our faith. It is hard for us to trust a God that we don’t know.

God desires to commune with you daily. He is standing at the door of your heart knocking. As scriptures say, today if you hear His voice harden not your heart. Invite Him in to commune with you.  Allow Him to sit with you and share the secrets of His heart. Cultivate that intimate relationship with Him that allows you to walk boldly and confidently in your faith.  He is waiting on you.

Let this cry from David become the cry of your heart today; Give me understanding and I will obey your instructions; I will put them into practice with all my heart. Make me walk along the path of your commands, for that is where my happiness is found. Give me an eagerness for your laws rather than a love for money! Turn my eyes from worthless things and give me life through your word. Psalms 119:34-37 NLT

Father, draw us closer to you each day. Let your Word be the food and drink we desire daily. Let your presence become our place of comfort. In Jesus name, Amen.

Mary

God’s Got You

Proverbs 3:26 (ERV) You can trust the Lord to protect you. He will not let you fall into harm.

wordswag_1512349841333
Trusting God has become a new buzz word. It is thrown around so loosely that we forget it’s connotation. Anytime we are going through challenging times the first words off the lips of others is normally “Just trust God, it will work out.”
What does it really mean to trust God? I have found in my very own life that trusting God required me to put forth some type of action to show that I believed what God was saying to me. Trusting God required me to stand still at times and knowing with sheer confidence I did not have to be in control. I did not have to come to my own rescue. It assured me that I had help, a reliable source and strength backing me. Proverbs 3:26 here in the Amplified version paints this picture clearly; For the Lord shall be your confidence, firm and strong, and shall keep your foot from being caught [in a trap or some hidden danger].

I implore you today not to take trusting God lightly. He will always be by your side. He is a source of strength in our times of weakness. He is a shield and a buckler whenever we find ourselves in danger. He is a provider when we are in need. And most of all He loves us with an everlasting love. We can rely on His faithfulness. We can trust His heart towards us.

Father even when my trust in You begins to wane. Remind me of Your faithfulness in my life. In Jesus name Amen

Grace and Peace to you,

How Do You Handle Pressure?

Standard

Image

Blessed (happy, fortunate, to be envied) is the man whom You discipline and instruct, O Lord, and teach out of Your law, 13 That You may give him power to keep himself calm in the days of adversity.        Psalm 94:12-13 (AMP)

Have you ever taken the time to think about how you handle pressure?   Do you run and hide? Does it paralyze you? It is good to take an honest assessment of how we deal with life.  It is a known fact that we will have challenges.  Life will not always hand us ideal situations but giving up is not a viable option. You can’t just opt out every time things get a little heated.   If we faint in the day of adversity our strength is small (Proverbs 24:10). In order to win in life, we must have perseverance and endurance.  James 1: 4 states, “Perseverance must finish its work so that we may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”

As I take a look at our key scripture text, I am reminded of God’s love for us.  We are truly fortunate to have a Father that disciplines and instructs us.  He is always teaching us.  It is our job to be teachable and make sure we are paying attention to the lessons of our lives.  This verse also stresses that the Lord gives us power to keep ourselves calm in the days of adversity. Where does that power come from?  I believe it is a direct result of what we learn from the Word of God and our union with Him. It is good to know that our God is strategic.  Everything He does has purpose.  Nothing that we encounter surprises Him.  He uses the hardships of our journey to mold us and shape us into a vessel that is pleasing to Him.

When you are faced with difficult issues, take the time needed to consult the word of God. It is through His word that we will find the ammunition that we need to keep us firmly planted as the pressures of life mount. We will be able to stand still and not pull back or retreat when times are hard as we consult His word for guidance.  My prayer for you today is that you will begin to desire the sincere milk of the Word and allow it to strengthen you in your everyday walk.  Be teachable and allow the Lord to train and instruct you in the way that you should go. It will be well with you.

Father your word teaches us that we can trust you in our daily lives. I pray that we will take the time needed to learn the lessons that you are teaching us. I pray that we will be students of your word, desiring it as our necessary food.

Grace and Peace,
Mary

Tough Spots?

Tough Spots?

Sometimes the greatest growth takes place in the dark. Allow the Lord to continue the work He has begun in you. You will be amazed at the results that come forth when you have completed the process.

When he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold. Job 23:10 ASV

There’s Greatness Within You!

God didn’t give us a cowardly spirit but a spirit of power, love, and good judgment.  2 Timothy 1:7 (GW)

Why am I still here? This is your daily cry as you ponder the deep dissatisfaction with your state in life. Yet, you choose to do nothing about it.  You blame everyone else for why you have not accomplished more, only to see deep within that it is not their fault. It is just easier for you not to take the blame.  You lash out at those that love you because they see the potential in you and desire to help you move forward.  Still yet, you isolate yourself because you feel you don’t have what it takes to be all that you can be. It’s time for a change.

Stop complaining about issues you are not willing to do something about. The truth of the matter is you are afraid, afraid to take the next steps. You are afraid of stepping out and failing. You are afraid of unleashing the real you. Fear of the unknown has you trapped in a cycle you long to break free from.  When will you see that you never have to do it alone? You have help available.  God has already given you everything that you need to live your best life.

Can’t you see that your life is of great value? Every waking moment, every hour, every second of the day is a precious gift from the Heavenly Father. Don’t waste your time and energy feeling sorry for yourself.  You hold the power in your hands to do something about where you are. What you don’t like, change it.  You have not even begun to discover the wealth that is on the inside of you. Be intentional when it comes to discovering what is within you!  Today is the day! Now is the time for you to move forward with determination and vigor and make your life count.  There is greatness on the inside of you!

Father, I pray for my brothers and sisters today that find themselves at the point of giving up. I ask that you infuse them with inner strength. Encourage their hearts to continue even in the midst of challenges. Allow them to see and know the wealth you have placed within them. In Jesus name Amen.
