It’s Not Just About Sunday

Standard

How can I stand in a corporate setting and say, “God I love you, God I need you, you’re my everything…Oh but I haven’t even opened your Word, or spent time communing with you this week?” We cannot begin to adore (worship) a God and bring Him praise when we haven’t begun to know Him. Debra Black

As, I read this statement it reminded me of the time when I thought reading the Bible and worshipping God was just for Sunday. Growing up Sundays were all about going to church. I didn’t understand why at the time, I just knew it was the thing to do.

Now, that I am older and know better I understand that worship is more about having an intimate relationship with our Heavenly Father. It’s not about rules and serving an angry God; it is about getting to know and love the God that created us, the God that loves us and gave His Only Son for us.   To worship God, we must make sure we are spending adequate time with Him to strengthen our relationship.  This can’t happen with just a Sunday mentality.  We must make time with Him a priority every day. Worship is a lifestyle and cultivating intimacy happens through relationship not religion. When we function under the “Sunday only mentality” it stunts the growth of our faith. It is hard for us to trust a God that we don’t know.

God desires to commune with you daily. He is standing at the door of your heart knocking. As scriptures say, today if you hear His voice harden not your heart. Invite Him in to commune with you.  Allow Him to sit with you and share the secrets of His heart. Cultivate that intimate relationship with Him that allows you to walk boldly and confidently in your faith.  He is waiting on you.

Let this cry from David become the cry of your heart today; Give me understanding and I will obey your instructions; I will put them into practice with all my heart. Make me walk along the path of your commands, for that is where my happiness is found. Give me an eagerness for your laws rather than a love for money! Turn my eyes from worthless things and give me life through your word. Psalms 119:34-37 NLT

Father, draw us closer to you each day. Let your Word be the food and drink we desire daily. Let your presence become our place of comfort. In Jesus name, Amen.

 Grace and Peace to you,

Mary

Are you listening?

Standard

Today, if you hear [my] voice, do not harden your hearts….” These words from Hebrews 3:15 stirred in my spirit this morning as I sat down to pen my thoughts. How often have we avoided the presence of God? It is so easy to get busy with everyday life that we forget to sit down and fellowship with our Heavenly Daddy. We often take for granted that we will be able to do it at a later time and it doesn’t always happen.

door

If we are not careful it can become a never-ending cycle until we hit a brick wall. Have you been there? It is imperative that we heed the voice of God when we hear it. The Bible tells us that wisdom cries out everywhere we go, but are we listening? Are we paying attention to His invitation to fellowship? It is during these moments that the Holy Spirit wants to show us love. He wants to encourage and strengthen us for the road ahead. He wants to warn us, or even chastise us and get us back on track. Are we listening?

I encourage you today to take a time out. Pay attention to the gentle promptings of the Holy Spirit. Pay close attention to His invitation to speak to your heart. He will not force Himself upon you, but He will beckon you to come. Don’t wait until it’s too late. Draw closer today. He’s awaiting your presence.

Father, thank you for calling me into fellowship with you. Forgive me for the times I don’t obey and help me to be more consistent in my fellowship with you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

TAKE ACTION

If you do not have a consistent routine set up to read the Bible daily, try reading a Proverb a day for the upcoming month. It will be a great way to fill your day with the wisdom of God.

Grace and Peace,

Mary

Hanging On By A Thread?

Standard

1 Peter 5:7-11 (MSG)  6-7 So be content with who you are, and don’t put on airs. God’s strong hand is on you; he’ll promote you at the right time. Live carefree before God; he is most careful with you. 8-11 Keep a cool head. Stay alert. The Devil is poised to pounce, and would like nothing better than to catch you napping. Keep your guard up. You’re not the only ones plunged into these hard times. It’s the same with Christians all over the world. So keep a firm grip on the faith. The suffering won’t last forever. It won’t be long before this generous God who has great plans for us in Christ—eternal and glorious plans they are!—will have you put together and on your feet for good. He gets the last word; yes, he does.

It is time for us to stop believing the lie that things will always go the way we want them. Yes we do get what we want at times but if that was the case always, we would never learn to appreciate the process. The process is what God uses to make us. The process develops us and gets us ready for what we have been asking God for. There is protection in unanswered prayers. God does not give us what we want at times but He always gives us what we need.

It is time for us to stop giving people false hope and false expectations. We must stop telling people that everything will be ok when in fact it might not! God does not work everything out the way we think he should but He works it out for our good. It is up to us to see the good in what God does in our lives. Every good and perfect gift comes from God.  Does that mean you give up hope? No, of course not! It means you have to learn to see things from a different perspective. You have to look for the good in each and every situation.  It means we must live by faith and not what we see!

It is time to stop believing that we will receive results just by “waiting on God.” The truth is, we have to do our part. The Bible plainly tells us that faith without works is dead. In 2004 the Lord spoke these four words to us and we have been holding on to them since; practical application and hard work. It takes believing, trusting, praying, but it also takes action, planning, and preparation. Sometimes you have to work your bottom off to get the results you have been looking for. Everything will not be handed to you on a silver platter. Again, that provides little benefit. Even while we are working we need to trust God to do what He does best. Many get trapped here believing that they have to do it all. That is unbalanced as well. God works with us to manifest the vision. He works with us to show us the proper path to take. He provides strength and encouragement when we can’t see the way.

So if you find yourself discouraged today, because you can’t see the forest for the trees and  you feel as though God has abandoned you. You feel alone in your relationship. You are afraid and anxious about the next move or even if you are fighting to hold on to your faith. I challenge you today to let go of your expectations. Let go of your own preconceived notions of how it will all work out and trust that God has a plan and a purpose. Follow His promptings and do obey His voice. That is when you will begin to see breakthrough!

Trust that HE is at work in your life. Cast your cares, all your worries, all your fears, all your doubts on God today knowing that He will strengthen and settle you and bring you to an expected end.

Father, we come to thank You today for all that you have done that we can’t see. So often, we take for granted that You are not there or You are not at work in our lives. Today, we put an end to our doubts, to our fears, to our cares and concerns. We now move out of the way so that You can allow Your perfect work to be done in our lives. For those that are hanging on by a thread, I thank You for opening the eyes of their understanding, grant them peace of mind and the assurance that they need to keep moving forward.  Show yourself strong Father in the lives of Your people. Thank You for doing exceedingly abundantly above all we may ask or even think. In Jesus’ Holy name. Amen

Grace and Peace,

Mary

God Has a Plan

Standard

My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass away from Me; nevertheless, not what I will [not what I desire], but as You will and desire. Matthew 26:39b (AMPC)

It is not always easy to understand the will of our Father, but it is imperative that we choose to follow His lead. I have come to understand that He knows best. We don’t have to know all the details. It is up to us to TRUST His heart concerning us.

So, today, I encourage you not to lose hope in the midst of the pain you may be feeling right now. God has a plan. His plan is not always understood but it will be revealed. You may not know what tomorrow holds, but follow His voice as He leads you step by step to the next place He has for you. He is a God of purpose. He uses the good, the bad and the ugly to work together for our good. Trust Him.

Father, it is so hard for us to understand Your will at times. We know what we desire to happen, but that is not always what You desire. Teach us Father to submit our will to Yours. Teach us to trust Your heart for us. Teach us not only to know Your ways but to know  Your character. Teach us to find our peace and assurance in Your love for us. May we come to understand that Your plans are to give us an expected end and a hope. Let Your will be done in our lives Lord. In Jesus name Amen.

Grace and Peace,

Mary

You Are Enough…

Standard

greatness

You are enough. You are good enough.

You are valuable. You have what it takes to succeed.

God values you. He made you unique, special, one of a kind.

There is no other that can offer what you have.

You have purpose. You are filled with potential.

You are a child of the most High God.

Your worth and value lies in your Creator, not in your size.

It’s not in your finances. It is not in your relationships. It is not in your looks.

Your confidence comes from knowing who you are in Him and who He has created you to be.

You are enough. Nothing anyone else can say or do, changes that.

God has established it in His eternal purpose for you.

What He placed in you is needed by others here in the earth.

Take heart today knowing He has fashioned you for such a time as this.

Everything God does exhibits greatness. That includes you.

Grace and Peace,

Mary

Be True To Who You Are..

Standard

As we are coming to a close of the first month of 2015, I find it necessary to make sure we reevaluate our motives going forward.

Are you working to be known?

Are you looking for applause and approval of man?

Are you living for an audience of one?

Take a long hard look at what is driving you this year. Make it a point to come to a place of truth about your underlying motives and intentions. Most of all be true to who you are and who God has created you to be.

Father, teach us to accept who you have called us to be. We are your divine masterpiece, chosen, forgiven, free, and wanted by you. We are your handiwork and created to do great things through your name. Teach us, I pray to walk in the greatness you have already placed on the inside of us. In Jesus name. Amen

Grace and Peace to you!

Mary
